About CO Surf Supply: Authenticity, Uniqueness, and Individuality

An ocean surfer at heart who found himself landlocked in Colorado, Dan Setzke saw the potential for river surfing to become a valid recreational pursuit. After his first successful river surf session in 2014, and upon meeting and collaborating with local river wave builders to partner up with and also learn the craft of surfboard building he projected that there would be a burgeoning community that demands locally made handbuilt river surfboards.

In 2014 Dan launched Colorado Surf Supply and knowing how river surfing can and would be perceived by the established surf culture he was guided by the mission to maintain principals of Authenticity to the craft and culture while focusing on the riders desire for Uniqueness in what they are riding so that they can express their Individuality.

The Boards – 

Construction:

Dan builds his boards with a balance of durability and performance while giving the rider a unique board that doesn’t look like just every other one fresh out of the container ship from overseas. Ocean surfboards are made to be extremely light for maximum performance on ocean waves and generally have an eggshell glass job. We have found that in the river there are more chances that a board is going to klunk against a rock or concrete wall at some point so a heavier glass job will keep a board from dinging as easily. In the event that you do get a ding the Epoxy on PU foam construction allows for easy repair to extend the life of the board. Many if not all the original boards that Dan built in 2015 are still being ridden today.

Dan offers 5 models of boards for all the various styles of river waves we have throughout the state, and for every type of rider from beginner through expert, and stylie old school cruiser through shortboard shredder. Dan also experiments with finless designs for those who think outside of the box and want a type of board where spins, shuvits and skateboard inspired tricks are easily adapted. The Raffle:

Colorado Surf Supply has generously donated a one of a kind, custom Animas River Surfers G-Nug Surfboard to help support our ongoing work to expand the sport of river surfing in Durango, CO on the Animas. This incredible board is the perfect blend of volume, shape, and style to slay the Durango river waves.  The board comes with a set of fins.

Dan offers local pickup or delivery along the front range. If the raffle winner is anywhere else Dan will coordinate with the winner to meet up to deliver the board. He is always looking for a good reason to travel throughout the state to surf the river waves near and far. If the winner is out of state, shipment can be coordinated.
